Google plans to hold its own
such event
Yahoo decided to go ahead with spinning off its
Alibaba stake into a separate entity, despite
uncertainty after federal tax authorities declined
to rule in advance
on whether the transaction
would mean huge capital gains taxes for Yahoo
or its
shareholders. Yahoo shareholders
had been looking forward to the spinoff
so by
keeping it on track, Marissa Mayer, the
company’s chief executive,
gets to keep
those shareholders happy
